Nowadays green tea has become highly popular among people not only because of its nutrients but also it’s capacity to fight chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease. Surprisingly green tea also protects the progression of kidney disease. If a moderated amount of green tea is consumed on a regular basis then it is helpful for the people suffering from any kidney problem.

Green tea extracts are proven to solve kidney problems and give life extension by preventing kidney damage. There are various benefits of drinking green tea such as antioxidants, catechins, and ECGC which are known for showing beneficial effects on the problems related to kidney.

Is green tea good for the kidney?

  • The green tea extracts bond itself with calcium oxalate thus enabling crystals to take different shapes and also prevents them from pilling up together in the kidney to form stones.
  • According to research, green tea extracts make calcium oxalate flatter thus forming flat stones, which are not strong and breakdown easily.

Is green tea good for dialysis patients?

As it is well known that green tea consists of antioxidants and if 1 decaffeinated green tea capsule is taken by the patient going through dialysis then it can help to improve many things which include:

  • Green tea capsules are helpful if consumed regularly for 6 months. It works by reducing inflammation and also lowers down the oxidative stress.
  • Green tea also shows a positive impact on the patients going through atherosclerotic dialysis.
  • Green tea also helps to improve certain things regarding kidney disease which include blood urea nitrogen, uric acid, creatinine levels, and glucose excretion.

Green Tea Side Effects on Kidneys

Green tea can be possibly unsafe if it is consumed in a high quantity that is 7-8 cups a day because it also contains caffeine, which is not good for kidney diseases but there are very few instances of this.

If green tea is taken in larger quantity then it may disrupt kidney function by diminishing anti-oxidant enzymes and expression of heat-shock proteins. This happens due to the toxicity of polyphenols present in green tea.

People suffering from high blood pressure should consume green tea in less quantity due to the presence of caffeine in it. As it enhances the chances of the risk of kidney disease and even declines the rate of kidney functions. Thus leads to a sudden increase in blood pressure.
